Low-Stress Training: Double Your Canopy Without Cutting

The complete LST playbook — tie-down technique, timing, anchor tricks, and combining LST with topping for a perfectly flat canopy.

Low-stress training is the highest-return technique in growing: zero cost, no recovery time, and yield gains of 40%+ over an untrained plant under the same light. You're not cutting anything — you're bending the plant flat so every bud site becomes a top.

Why it works: apical dominance

Cannabis pours energy into whatever tip sits highest, hormonally suppressing everything below it. Bend that main tip horizontal and the suppression signal collapses — every side branch responds as if it were the main cola. One plant becomes a dozen tops of equal rank.

The hormone responsible is auxin. It concentrates in the highest point and tells lower branches "don't bother." When you remove the height advantage, auxin redistributes evenly, and every branch gets an equal growth signal.

What you need

  • Soft plant ties or garden wire (never bare string — it cuts stems as they thicken)
  • Drilled holes around the pot rim, binder clips, or ground staples as anchors
  • 10 minutes, twice a week
