Sea of Green (SOG): Maximum Harvests from Minimum Veg Time

Sea of Green (SOG) is the opposite of the training-heavy approaches like SCROG, mainlining, or LST. Instead of growing a few plants for many weeks and training them to fill the canopy, SOG grows many small plants with almost no training. You skip the extended veg, skip the topping, skip the tying — each plant produces a single main cola, and the collective canopy of those single colas fills the space.

The trade-off is straightforward: more plants, less time per plant, faster turnaround, but you need a steady supply of clones or seeds.

How SOG works

The concept

1. Fill the growing space with as many plants as it can hold at the target density (typically one plant per square foot)
2. Veg minimally — just 1–3 weeks, enough for the plant to establish roots and a few nodes
3. Flip to 12/12 early. Each plant develops one main cola with minimal side branching
4. Harvest, replace, repeat

Why it works

A cannabis plant's main cola receives the most light and produces the densest bud. In a traditional grow, you train the plant to create multiple colas of similar quality. In SOG, you don't bother — you just grow more plants, each with one cola.

The math is simple:

• 1 trained plant producing 8 colas in 14 weeks (6 veg + 8 flower)
• vs. 8 untrained plants each producing 1 cola in 10 weeks (2 veg + 8 flower)

The SOG finishes 4 weeks faster and produces roughly equivalent total yield. Over a year, the faster turnaround means more harvest cycles, which means more total production from the same space.
